Some proposals happen with both feet on the ground, others happen between sky and earth. A hot air balloon belongs to the second kind: a gentle lift-off, an almost total silence, a 360 degree panorama and, in the middle of it all, the person you love. Here is how to imagine, prepare and make a success of a hot air balloon proposal, a short distance from Paris.

Why propose in a hot air balloon?

A balloon is not flown like a plane. It follows the wind, rises and descends to find the gentlest current, and lets itself be carried. There is something endlessly romantic in that freedom: you do not know exactly where you will land, you trust the moment.

For a proposal, the advantages are many:

Planning a marriage proposal?

Discover our bespoke experiences, designed to make this moment unforgettable.

  • Intimacy: in a private basket, you are alone with your pilot, far from crowds and noise.
  • Light: flights take place at the two softest moments of the day, at sunrise or in the late afternoon.
  • Serenity: the lack of felt speed and the gradual climb create a sense of calm, ideal for saying the words that matter.
  • Memory: few scenes are as memorable as going down on one knee above castles and valleys.

Sunrise or end of day: which slot to choose?

A balloon can only fly in light wind, without rain or turbulence. These conditions only exist at two moments of the day, and fortunately they are the most beautiful.

The sunrise flight

The morning slot is set at 06:15, depending on season and weather. The air is calm, the light bathes the landscape in an unreal softness, and you have the whole day ahead to celebrate. It suits couples who love peaceful atmospheres and early mornings full of promise.

The end of day flight

The evening slot is set at 18:15, a few hours before sunset, when the colours ignite and time seems to slow down. It is the most requested for a proposal because you can continue the evening with a romantic dinner. The exact slot is confirmed when you book.

Where does the flight take place near Paris?

OuiLove Paris offers two flying zones: Maintenon, near the castle and the Eure valley, and the Perche, for a flight over deep, unspoiled countryside. The zone is chosen when you book, and our team advises you according to your taste and the season. The starting point is in Bailleau-Armenonville (28320), and a ground team vehicle takes you comfortably back to the starting point after landing.

How a balloon proposal unfolds

  1. The safety briefing. Your DGAC certified professional pilot welcomes you and explains the flight.
  2. Inflating the balloon. You can take part if you wish. Watching the balloon inflate, rise and come alive is already a show.
  3. Lift-off. The basket leaves the ground imperceptibly, then with astonishing lightness. The world fades beneath you.
  4. The proposal. The moment you chose with our team, in complete privacy, carried by wind and landscape.
  5. Landing. In a meadow, a field or at the end of a country lane chosen by the wind. Tradition calls for a glass of champagne, and your flight certificate is presented.

To include your loved ones, they can come to watch the inflation and lift-off, then follow the ground team vehicle to the landing point. A discreet way to share the memory without being in the basket.

Preparing your flight

Book ahead

We recommend booking at least 3 to 4 weeks ahead, especially for evening slots, the most requested for proposals. The flight ticket is valid for 2 years from the purchase date, with no booking fees.

Working with the weather

The final flight confirmation is sent the day before by the OuiLove Paris team. In unfavourable conditions the flight is postponed at no cost, and a new date is offered quickly. If your proposal is tied to a symbolic date, leave some margin in your calendar.

Plan the duration

Allow about 3 to 4 hours for the whole experience, from briefing to landing and the return to the starting point. The flight itself varies with wind conditions.

Capture the moment

To keep every second, you can add a professional photographer or a professional videographer to your service. Read our advice in Photographer or videographer for your proposal.

Contraindications

Balloon flights are not permitted for pregnant women. If you have reduced mobility or a particular medical condition, contact us before booking.

Frequently asked questions

Why do flights only take place in the morning or at end of day?

A balloon can only fly in wind below 18 km/h, without rain or turbulence. These conditions are only met at the calmest moments of the day: early morning at sunrise, and at end of day, 2 to 3 hours before sunset. They are also the most beautiful moments to fly.

What happens if the weather does not allow the flight?

Final confirmation is given the day before. In unfavourable conditions the flight is postponed to a later date at no cost. Since the ticket is valid for 2 years, you can reschedule calmly.

Is the flight suitable for people prone to vertigo?

A balloon very rarely causes a feeling of vertigo. The lack of felt speed and the gradual climb in silence create a sense of serenity instead. If in doubt, talk to our team during preparation.

Can loved ones watch the take-off and landing?

Yes. Your loved ones can watch the inflation and take-off, then follow the ground team vehicle to the landing point, sharing the memory without being in the basket.
